Guangzhou-Day 2!!

It's good to be in Guangzhou! I don't really remember it here from last time, but it doesn't feel like we're in a foreign country as much as it did when we were in Harbin. We got in last night at around eight or so and ordered Papa John's pizza! How's that for a first late night in Guangzhou?! We went right to bed after that, too tired to do anything else. Five hour plane flights are pretty bad, but after being on a fifteen hour flight, it was a piece of cake until we got off and got sleepy. This morning we went down to the breakfast bar. It was pretty good, but not as good as our last hotel-the Shangri-La. (Sounds fancy enough, right??) We had to get ready quickly, as I already pointed out, is not my specialty. Although I got ready before Daddy, so to my pleasure I got to give him a hard time about that! At nine we had to go to Chloe Grace's medical exam. It was chaotic, crazy, and insane, but those are complete understatements! Kids screaming/crying, people running/walking around, and no space to really move all contributed enough. I have to say I remember this from last time, possibly because it was even more chaotic when we got Hannah via too many people in the building at one time. Anyway, Chloe Grace was fine until it was her turn to get her exam. She hates when you take off her clothes and things of the sort, which is what they all had to do. They had to check her body, nose, ears, mouth, and then was the vaccination station. This is where my mom and I almost started bawling our eyes out. Chloe Grace has to get EIGHT shots. She got four today, and she has to get the other four on Monday. I didn't go in because if you know me, you know that I CAN'T STAND shots. I am TERRIFIED of them. So Mama and Daddy went in the room and came out with a sobbing baby. It was all I could do to not cry. She was so pitiful. I know it was hard for her because Mama says they were really rough with her and she's so tiny-FOUR shots in one day! :'(
After the shots were over, Chloe Grace was fine. I'm sure she's still a little sore, but she sure doesn't show it! I know she did a whole lot better than I do with getting shots, and I'm not kidding! We-my mom, Hannah, Chloe Grace, and I-went shopping and walking around the city while poor Daddy went to do paperwork. I had lots of fun going around-I even got a free magnetic bracelet! (Thanks to Hannah, who always gets free stuff in China.) It's really cool, and it can be a necklace, bracelet, or an anklet! Hannah was being...not the best trooper, so we went to get some drinks from a Seven Eleven. In the Seven Eleven, there was a shop- Jennifer's Place. (By the way, all the little stores owned by people are called places. For Example: Michael's Place, Sherry's Place, Jessica's Place, Jenny's Place, Jordan's Place, etc. I saw all of these stores and more- I'm dead serious!) Ok, back to Jennifer's Place. Mama bought some matching aqua Chinese dresses for Hannah and Chloe Grace at another 'place'. She wants a picture taken with all three of us matching, and no other places had them in above babies' sizes. Jennifer's place did, so we were trying to find the same pattern in a size that wasn't too short for me. The lady gave us a long small, and it looked like it would fit. Mama wanted me to try it on, though, so she asked the lady if there was a dressing room so I could try it on. The lady-Jennifer, I'm guessing- told us that she would turn off the lights and close her eyes!! There wasn't a dressing room, which isn't uncommon, but I WAS NOT changing in the middle of the store!! I almost didn't believe her, then she walked away, turned off the lights, and turned around. Ok. Let me give you the setting of this all too true story. A store in the middle of China. Open doors-you can see straight into the street where this lady told me to change. There aren't any people in the store, but there could be. Believe me-they wouldn't hesitate if a section of the lights were off to come in. I almost started laughing because the idea seems sooo ridiculous. Think about it-if you we were in America this wouldn't have happened. Then again, we wouldn't be buying Chinese dresses in the U.S...
Anyway, when my mom and I were like "Uh..No thank you." The lady made me put it on over the clothes I already had on. That is when we realized the dress was split a little too high, if you know what I mean. We decided to try somewhere else after that. If you personally know me and how I am, it makes the story even funnier! :)
It's around suppertime here, so we are going to eat at Lucy's-my favorite restaurant in China! It's a fast food place, but after Chinese food it's heaven! I got to go eat! Bye!!

  2. Hahahahah, MaCayla this is so funny! You'll remember this story every time you try something on for the rest of you life.
So sorry about all the shots for CG. It just seems cruel, but if it gets her closer to America, I guess we'll do what we have to do. I'm so proud that you all were brave!

  3. It sounds as if walmart can save a little space now and go China style with no dressing rooms- they are sooo overated especially since you normally have to come out anyhow and let everyone see your outfit after you have tried it on. You are going to have some great stories for youth group in a few weeks. Sorry about the shots- I know that is not your favorite thing. I am still jealous that you went to Lucy's- think about me next time as I am eating my PBJ since Caryn is still up in Ohio. Have a great day tomorrow.

  4. MaCayla~I love reading your posts! They are funny and bring back so many China memories for me! Tell you mom that Jenny's place is where I got all of Ruthie's squeaky shoes for the best price. Jenny and her husband are Christians and very sweet. Tell her that you are also a Christian...she loves to tell people that she is a believer.
